Castle, Park and Regional History
A Renaissance residence stands in the centre of Loučná nad Desnou. Přemek ze Žerotína had it built in 1608 on the site of a wooden hunting lodge. The castle's history also includes the castle chapel: it was later expanded into a parish church dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius and features Baroque frescoes by Ignác Raab. The area therefore offers not just a single historic building, but several different ways to explore the region's culture.
Přemek III ze Žerotína laid out the castle park towards the end of the 17th century as an ornamental flower garden beside an orchard at the castle. Its features include the Neptune Pond and a grotto. Water flows over its stone arches from the pond as a waterfall. A mechanical flax spinning mill also developed near the castle into one of the most important linen works in the Habsburg Monarchy; in 1873, it received an award at the World's Fair in Vienna.
