Špičky: Owl Trail, Hilly Landscape and Church History

Špičky combines a family-oriented educational trail with a varied hilly landscape. The local history includes a church documented as early as the 13th century. The route’s owl theme, the elevations and the historic building offer different focal points for exploring the village.

Family Experience on the Owl Trail

The Soví stezka educational trail begins at the kindergarten, where a map can be collected. It leads through Špičky via 11 stations and ends at a photo point. Its theme is owls; the route is aimed at children and families. It is freely accessible all year round. The eleven stations structure the excursion and distribute the owl theme across several learning points. Discovering them together combines the nature theme with the educational stations. The photo point marks the end. This allows families to plan the route as a standalone activity; year-round free access means they are not tied to a specific travel period.

Hilly Landscape between Vysoká stráž and the Bečva

The cadastral area of Špičky lies in the Příborská pahorkatina, a varied hilly landscape with a distinctly erosion- and denudation-shaped relief. The technical term describes a landscape shaped by erosion and the removal of material. The Vysoká stráž hill lies north of Špičky. At 370 m above sea level, it is considered the highest point in the surrounding landscape. The Bečva floodplain lies at the southern edge of the cadastral area, at about 250 m above sea level. Around 120 metres of elevation separate Vysoká stráž from the Bečva floodplain. Thus, the cadastral area brings together a northern elevation and a southern, lower-lying river floodplain. The contrast therefore concerns both the cardinal direction and the elevation, giving the landscape two clearly distinguishable sides.

Church History and Cycling Route

The Church of Saints Simon and Jude, “Kostel svatých Šimona a Judy”, has been documented in Špičky since the 13th century. It acquired its present form through the neo-Gothic reconstruction of 1900–1901. This historical focus complements the nature-related themes of the Owl Trail and the hilly landscape with an architectural perspective.

Špičky is served by regular bus connections. The Krakow–Morava–Vienna long-distance cycling route also runs along the northern edge of the village. In Špičky, mobility and cycling aspects therefore clearly complement the family route.
