Dolni Lomna combines protected woodland landscapes, educational trails and the history of the Lomná Valley with experiences for a range of interests. Here, you can experience nature not only along trails, but also learn more about it through exhibitions, models and historical stories.

Nature, Educational Trails and Views

The Mionší educational trail runs along the edge of the Mionší primeval forest. This forest is protected as a national nature reserve and is considered one of the best-preserved forest complexes in the Moravian part of the Western Carpathians. Another natural feature is the Jestřábí Waterfall: the 3-metre-high waterfall lies on a small tributary of the Jestřábí stream.

The Stezka krajinou dávných horalů trail begins at the information centre on Matyščina louka and is primarily suitable for pedestrians. Seven wooden panels provide insights into the lives and occupations—mostly connected with forestry—of the people who lived there more than 100 years ago. The information centre in Dolní Lomná is also a starting point for the municipality’s educational trails. The Rozhledna Tetřev observation tower offers views of the surrounding mountain ridges and valleys of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids; an indoor exhibition is dedicated to the local fauna and flora. The cycle path in the Lomná Valley is used by cyclists and inline skaters and serves as a cross-country skiing trail in winter.

History and Regional Tradition

The Lomňanské Museum is housed in the wooden building of Lomná’s original school, dating from 1852. It collects the historical heritage of Lomná’s inhabitants in the form of chronicles, photo albums, recordings of older residents and original exhibits. The area around the Lomňanské Museum hosts carriage races, an autumn market, Easter and Christmas exhibitions, as well as exhibitions of nativity scenes and historical photographs every year. The different formats combine local memories with seasonal events and give each museum visit a changing focus.

In the heart of Dolní Lomná lies the Zbojnická stezka, a wooden area that tells stories of bandits, the history of the Lomná Valley and the people who lived there. The Zbojnická stezka includes a rope centre, a climbing wall, slides, climbing structures and wood carvings to view. The Zemědělský dvorek includes a wooden hayloft with an exhibition of traditional sheep’s milk products.

Discoveries for Different Holiday Days

The URSUS centrum presents the local mountain ecosystem with a 3D film about the Beskids, an interactive presentation of the local fauna, a large model of the Beskids and an interactive garden. Environmental programmes, including field explorations, are offered for children, families and the general public. This makes it possible to combine active trails, nature observation and cultural and historical discoveries in Dolni Lomna in different ways, without limiting the trip to just one type of experience.
