Church and Baroque statue

One of the notable historical details in Ryžoviště is a Baroque stone statue of the Virgin Mary with the infant Jesus. It dates from 1733 and was created by the sculptor J. G. A. Heinz. Two putti are part of the design of its pedestal and make the monument interesting in detail as well.

The Church of St. John the Baptist is a single-nave masonry church with a Renaissance core. The building was remodelled in the Baroque style in 1758. It is a prominent visual landmark in the surrounding area. The Lafayette history of Ryžoviště

A particularly unusual connection to European history leads to the Lafayette House. The French General Lafayette was held at the Lafayette House in Ryžoviště in 1792. The building itself is a single-storey Empire-style house and was formerly a judge's residence dating from the late 18th century. It is privately owned and not open to the public. This restriction is important for your planning: the historic building cannot be visited as a freely accessible sightseeing point.

Ryžoviště does, however, have a local-history Lafayette exhibition. Visits can be arranged in person or by telephone through the municipal office. This allows you to plan the Lafayette memorial as a separate cultural destination without equating access to the private Lafayette House with a visit to the exhibition.
