Velká Štáhle – River Valley, History and Trails

Velká Štáhle lies on both banks of the Moravice, immediately beyond its confluence with the Podolský stream. The town therefore combines a clearly recognizable river landscape with historical traces and routes into the surrounding area. Church and Local Memory

The Church of the Holy Trinity is a prominent historical landmark. Jan Kobylka of Kobylí built it between 1576 and 1606 in the Late Gothic style. Its tower offers wide-ranging views over the surrounding area. Visiting the church building thus combines with a view across the Moravice landscape.

Another testament to the town's history is the Boží tělo Chapel from 1927. It houses the original Baroque sandstone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. Two black marble plaques also name 32 victims of the war from 1914 to 1918. The chapel therefore preserves both an older religious work of art and a reminder of twentieth-century history.

Industrial History and Routes along the Moravice

In the center of Velká Štáhle, the historic DDP 22 threshing machine stands on the grounds of the kindergarten. It was manufactured by ED. LÖHNERT & SOHN in Velká Štáhle between 1929 and 1939 and is displayed beside a bicycle rest area with seating. Its location makes the machine an easily identifiable detail in the town center and complements the historic buildings with an example of local industrial history.

The routes also connect Velká Štáhle with the neighboring landscapes. Route 6142 can be extended via Břidličná towards the Slezská Harta reservoir. From Velká Štáhle, cyclists can also reach Malá Štáhle via a dirt track along the right bank of the Moravice.

Near Malá Štáhle, an educational trail leads through the remains of mining activity. This landscape includes ponds, quarries and gorges; the educational trail also incorporates a shared inline skating, cycling and walking route. Thus, in addition to the town center, historical and landscape-related topics are available to explore in the immediate surroundings.

Orientation for Your Stay

The Moravice Valley is designated as a European Natura 2000 site of Community importance. This protected status is part of the classification of the landscape and complements the cultural attractions with an important nature-related aspect. A local path to a wayside cross and a bell tower passes the church building via a dirt track; at an intersection, turn right.

The Rýmařov–Valšov railway line runs through Velká Štáhle. For orientation within the town, the municipal tourist accommodation U školky provides a specific reference point: it is located 100 meters from the railway stop on this line and 400 meters from a bus stop.
