Between Castles, Traditional Crafts and Living History

Around Seeberg and Poustka, medieval architectural history, exhibitions, village landmarks and an educational trail with animal encounters come together. Seeberg Castle is located in Ostroh, a district of Poustka, and is surrounded on three sides by the Slatinný potok stream. This is where the discovery begins: at a place whose distinctiveness is already evident in its setting and historic heritage.

Seeberg Castle as a Cultural Center

Seeberg Castle dates back to the end of the 12th century. Its architectural ensemble combines a Romanesque and Gothic palace with a Renaissance wing and an arcaded gallery. At the castle, visitors can explore major exhibitions on the history of the castle, the Black Kitchen and the theme “The Life of a Porcelain Cup.” The different architectural styles stand side by side in the ensemble; the exhibitions also draw attention to everyday culture and traditional crafts.

Near the castle is a chapel at a spring dating from 1712. A Hussar cross from the time of the Seven Years’ War also stands there. In Poustka, a restored dovecote adds to the historic impressions: it stands on an old, partially maintained farmstead and was built in 1908. The chapel, Hussar cross and dovecote complement the castle ensemble with religious, military and rural landmarks in its surroundings. A visit therefore includes not only representative castle architecture, but also smaller reminders of rural life.

St. Wolfgang and Different Historical Layers

The Church of St. Wolfgang stands in Seeberg. It was built in the Late Gothic style from 1470 to 1478 and remodeled in the Baroque style in 1721. The single-nave building has no tower and features a polygonal-ended presbytery. The church adds sacred architecture to the ensemble; its Late Gothic origins and Baroque remodeling are combined in a single building. This creates a distinct focus for visitors interested in culture alongside the castle: sacred architecture, architectural history and later alterations can all be read in one building.

Educational Trail and Ekofarma Seeberg

The educational trail around Seeberg Castle explores the history, settlement of the castle’s surroundings and development of traditional crafts. One stop along the trail is Ekofarma Seeberg. There, children can enter the animal enclosures and, for example, feed sheep or llamas. This stop complements the historical themes with a direct encounter with animals and makes the outing varied and enjoyable for families with different interests.

Summer Events

In summer, a traditional historical fair and the wine festival regularly bring Seeberg Castle to life. The wine festival was first held in 2015. Those who want to include an event in their travel plans alongside architectural history and exhibitions will find a seasonal opportunity to combine a cultural visit with a traditional festive atmosphere.
