Jívka between Mining History and Cultural Landscape

Jívka combines traces of its former copper mining industry with village architecture and remarkable habitats. Underground Mining and a Bat Roost

The Měděný důl Bohumír was reopened to the public in 2015. Visitors can walk through the underground mine where miners once worked and experience an authentic technical monument. Inside, they can see original mining technology, mine carts, work tools, authentic buildings, machinery, and preserved details of local mining. This makes the former work in the mine understandable not only through individual exhibits, but also through the preserved technical environment. At the same time, Měděný důl Bohumír serves as a protected wintering site and summer refuge for bats.

Spoil Heap, Orchids, and Hiking Trail

The Jívka spoil heap is the former settling facility of the Bohumír copper mine and copper ore processing plant. It forms a mosaic of dry, extremely nutrient-poor, and wet habitats in which several orchid species occur. The specific route is documented to help with orientation in this part of the landscape: the best way to reach the spoil heap is via the red-marked hiking trail from Horní Vernéřovice in the direction of Malé Svatoňovice. The Jívka, odbočka SKJ bus stop can be used as a possible starting point.

Village Heritage Zone and Sacred Art

Jívka is home to the Dolní Vernéřovice village heritage zone. Its appearance is characterized by loosely distributed masonry and log-house buildings in the style of the Podkrkonoší and Silesian houses; the heritage zone has been protected since 1 January 2005. The Church of St Mary Magdalene is a filial church and was formerly a parish church. Jívka is also home to a group of three Renaissance and Baroque boundary stones documenting the historic marking of the boundary between two estates. The column with the Pietà group (Sloup se sousoším Piety) is considered a valuable example of regional sculpture and stonework from the end of the 17th century. The Chapel of St Anthony of Padua is an aligned rural chapel from 1752 with a polygonal termination, a porch, and a small roof turret, and is considered an example of vernacular sacred architecture.
