Dolní Lánov combines a distinctive sacred ensemble with paths through the landscape and mountains in the wider surroundings. Those who want to combine culture, short discoveries and excursions into nature during their stay will find several different points of interest here: St. James’ Church and the adjoining cemetery form a valuable site and a prominent feature of the landscape, while walking and circular trails connect the village with its surroundings.

St. James and the History of the Village

St. James the Elder’s Church is well worth a close look at its architectural history. The Utraquist chapel and the separate bell tower date from the construction phase between 1511 and 1518. A later construction phase lasted from 1599 to 1603 and was carried out under the direction of the Italian architect Carlo Valmadi. At a single sacred site, you can therefore encounter several clearly dated stages of its development.

The chapels of the Stations of the Cross also add a distinctive accent. They are made of red sandstone, are about one person’s height and have niches that end at the top in a vaulted shell shape. This cultural picture is complemented by Kovárna No. 1 in Dolní Lánov, which is designated as a technical monument. For visitors interested in regional architectural and technological history, Dolní Lánov therefore offers more than just a single point of interest.

Walking Trails, an Educational Trail and Mountains in the Surroundings

A local walking route follows former agricultural paths to St. James’ Church. This route makes the church visible not only as a destination but also as part of a walking experience. The Srnec educational trail passes through a former game enclosure and provides information about the interesting history of this area. Both options combine activity with the history of the landscape and the village, without requiring you to limit yourself to sightseeing alone.

Several elevations recorded as mountains are located in the surroundings of Dolní Lánov: Tetřeví vrch, Černá hora, Přední Žalý and Zadní Žalý. When planning an excursion, you can choose between cultural destinations and mountain landscapes. In the wider regional surroundings, there is also Spalona Stražnica, recorded as a ruin. In the immediate surroundings, Lázně is recorded as a church.

Circular Trail for Active Days

A circular trail leads from Vrchlabí via Horní and Dolní Lánov to Kunčice nad Labem and back to the starting point. It combines quiet roads, field paths and short paved sections. This also makes it possible to include Dolní Lánov in a longer cycling loop through several villages. Depending on whether you prefer a culturally focused walk, an educational trail or a more extensive loop, the surroundings offer various ways to shape your stay.
