Horni Olesnice: Valley, Culture and Mountain Landscape

Horní Olešnice lies in the valley along the upper reaches of the Kalenský potok, on the former border between German- and Czech-speaking areas and between mountain ridges at an altitude of 364 metres above sea level. The location in the valley, between floodplain and highlands, gives the surroundings a variety of landscape connections. Cultural monuments in the village setting

A prominent architectural monument is farmhouse No. 3 in Horní Olešnice. It is listed as an immovable cultural monument of the Czech Republic and was built as a masonry, uniformly designed single-storey house in the first half of the 19th century. Its construction represents a historic rural form that differs from the religious and commemorative features found in the village. In the cadastral area of Horní Olešnice, there is also a monument commemorating the victims of the First and Second World Wars near house No. 16. The local cultural landscape also includes a Marian chapel by a road and a statue of Mary, Queen. The statue stands by a house, 50 metres from the road towards Dolní Kalná. The features therefore range from rural architecture and religious symbols to remembrance of those killed in war.

Cycling routes and historic views

Cycle route 4302 Kunčice–Mostek runs through the cadastral areas of Horní Olešnice and Prostřední Olešnice. The northern part of the municipality is crossed by cycle route 4294 Libštát–Hostinné. One connection therefore includes both cadastral areas, while the other crosses the northern part of the municipality. An old post road also runs along the northern ridge, offering magnificent views of the Krkonoše Mountains.
