Bílé Poličany: Cycling Route and Historic Traces

Bílé Poličany can be explored through two clearly recognizable aspects: a described cycling route and historic traces ranging from the château’s history to small religious monuments. This creates a destination that combines active exploration with discoveries of cultural history, without requiring you to limit your stay to just one type of activity.

Cycling with a clearly specified route

The 8-kilometre Podzvičinska 4131 Maňovice–Zábřezí cycling route runs through Bílé Poličany. The route has a stated elevation difference of approximately 120 metres. Its length, course, and elevation difference make it a specifically described way to explore the surroundings by bicycle. The route is part of a system of 23 marked routes that connect to existing cycling routes in the Hradec Králové Region. Those who enjoy combining different directions for excursions during their stay in the Czech Republic will therefore find not just a single passage through the village, but also a connection to a larger network of marked cycle paths.

Vinice as a walking destination

Vinice is designated as an excursion destination and is easily accessible on foot, including via the red-marked hiking trail. There is no vineyard or restaurant at the present-day excursion destination.

Château, park, and musical history

The history of Bílé Poličany also has its own distinctive features. In 1949, when Bílé Poličany Château belonged to Czechoslovak Radio, established and aspiring employees of Czechoslovak Radio stayed there. This episode links the place with the broadcasting history of that era.

Another notable historical detail is the English-style park. The former music salon was converted into the Chapel of the Elevation of the Holy Cross. Beside the fountain stands a sandstone sculpture of a satyr. Both details give the park a cultural character that goes beyond a purely landscape-oriented description. The former chapel pavilion now primarily serves as a storage building; its present use therefore differs considerably from its former designation and function.

Historic traces in the village landscape

Further discoveries can be found in small but precisely described architectural details. A simple plague pillar on the road passing through Bílé Poličany bears the year 1729. It commemorates a year of plague in which many local families died. On a niche chapel, a prayer text to Saint John of Nepomuk is carved into the gable: “G Jenne Nepomůcký patrone náš milý blaženče Český oroduj za náss.” The niche chapel formerly housed a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. It is precisely the combination of the inscription and its former furnishings that makes it a testimony to the local culture of piety and remembrance.

Another striking detail is the sundial on house no. 33. It is located 2.4 metres above the ground and is 1 metre in size. Such precise features invite visitors, when exploring the area, to look not only for major sights but also to pay attention to smaller traces in the village landscape.
