The Church of Saints Peter and Paul

The Church of Saints Peter and Paul is Voděrady’s landmark and a pseudo-Romanesque building. As early as the 14th century, Voděrady existed as a fully functioning village with a church. The present parish church was built in 1887 after the older church was demolished; regular services began in January 1888. The church is therefore not only a 19th-century building but also part of an older local tradition.

Individual furnishings also point to the local history. In 1582, the church in Voděrady was equipped with a baptismal font provided by the Častolovice estate. On Sundays, a Mass or a Liturgy of the Word is held at 10:45 a.m. in the Church of Saints Peter and Paul. Visitors can park at the bus stop, by the former inn approximately 100 meters from the church, or in front of the shop in Voděrady. The designation “former inn” remains part of the local orientation and does not describe a currently operating food-service establishment.

Cycling and hiking around Voděrady

The marked cycling route 4351 runs from Semechnice via Voděrady and Lično to Hoděčín. A second marked connection, cycling route 4354, runs from Houdkovice via Voděrady to Nová Ves. Both routes place Voděrady within a larger network of routes, but they differ in their respective starting and destination points.

For longer days of cycling, there is the 74-kilometer cycling tour “Na Osičinu.” It is suitable for trekking bikes and mountain bikes. A lookout tower built in 2002 also stands on Osičina Hill within the municipality of Voděrady. Alongside the village church, this provides another landmark in the municipality. The tower thus represents a more recent point of reference, while the church’s history reaches back to the 14th century.

There are also different distance specifications for hiking, with clearly separate references: The “Třebechovice–Voděrady” hiking route covers 2.4 km in Voděrady u Rychnova nad Kněžnou. The “Třebechovice–Voděrady” hiking route maintained by KČT is 13.7 km long. The shorter figure therefore refers to the section in Voděrady u Rychnova nad Kněžnou, while the maintained route is 13.7 km long overall.
