Tyniste Nad Orlici – Forest Trails, Nature and Culture

Týniště nad Orlicí is surrounded by pine forests and is commonly known as “Město v lesích” (“City in the Forest”). For you, the town combines a forest-dominated setting with historical traces, regional art and trails whose themes range from viewpoints and water to protected habitats.

Forest Trails and Water Experiences

The Město v lesích educational trail has 20 stations. Along the route, QR codes at significant locations provide additional content on the website. The route is described as an 11-kilometre walk lasting three hours, with 22 metres of elevation gain. It is considered suitable for cyclists and prams and follows easy, level asphalt terrain. Created in 2014, the Městská naučná stezka connects interesting places in the centre of Týniště nad Orlicí and its immediate surroundings. For an excursion by the water, Kemp Písák offers natural swimming in the waters of a natural sand lake.

Discover Protected Landscapes

The Týnišťské Poorličí area covers the entire site of former game enclosures between Třebechovice pod Orebem and Týniště nad Orlicí. It is characterised by mixed forests, ponds and old oak plantations on embankments and along paths. The occurrence of the hermit beetle Osmoderma eremita there is particularly associated with centuries-old hollow oaks. U Glorietu is a protected pine and oak forest and overlaps with a European protected area established to protect the hermit beetle. U Houkvice protects rare marsh vegetation on the gravelly-sandy terraces of Podorlicko, the aquatic vegetation of a system of oligomesotrophic ponds, as well as old oaks with a regionally particularly large number of relict and bioindically significant tree-dwelling insect species. Týnišťská borovice is a genetically distinguishable local type of Scots pine.

History, Art and Views

The Vodárenská věž serves as a seasonal museum and gallery; its interior is arranged for exhibitions and chamber music cultural events. It was built from 1925 to 1928, including the municipal water supply system and the installation of clocks. From the viewing platform, you can see across the surrounding area; in clear conditions, mountain peaks can be seen on the horizon. The first written mention of the Kostel sv. Mikuláše church dates from 1361. In 1842 and 1843, it was rebuilt approximately into its present form, and in 1940 its tower was raised by one storey. The Jaroslav Dostál Gallery opened on 13 November 2013 and houses more than 200 paintings by the local painter Jaroslav Dostál and other regional artists of the 20th century. Visits are possible by prior arrangement. The Virtual Museum presents the history of Týniště nad Orlicí through loaned objects, photographs, postcards and its own collecting activities. In the 19th century, Týniště nad Orlicí became an important railway junction: the connections from Prague to Hanušovice were established in 1874, and the line from Choceň to Meziměstí in 1875.
