Janov in the Orlické Mountains – Loom History and Paths Through the Landscape

Janov in the Orlické Mountains offers a stay with several clearly distinct discoveries: local history, a chapel, wooded slopes, stream meadows, marked paths, and a cycling route. The municipality combines cultural traces with experiences in the landscape and excursions in the surrounding area.

Loom History and Local Culture

In 1894, there were 94 looms in Janov. The town’s last loom remained in operation until 1970. The loom tradition therefore continued for many decades and forms part of Janov’s history. Janov is also home to the Chapel of Saint Joseph. It complements the history of the looms with a sacred site. Local customs also form part of the town’s cultural character. The „Pálení čarodějnic“ festival took place in Janov on April 30 in 2023, 2024, and 2025. The annual fairytale game „Kačenčina pohádková říše“ adds a recurring activity to the local customs: Janov is one of the municipalities where participants collect stamps. Its annual recurrence and stamp collecting give the fairytale game a firm place in local life.

On the route starting from Janov, a yellow-marked tourist trail leads to Panský rybník. This makes it possible to combine cycling with a destination outside the town. The different markings of the hiking and cycling routes also make two separate paths through the surrounding area visible.

A public bus timetable applies from January 1 to December 12, 2026, with the stops „Janov“ and „Janov,Tis“. Both stops are therefore part of the town’s public transport connection. They complement the local destinations with a practical arrival point for days involving loom history, the chapel, the landscape, the path to Rokole, or the cycling route.
