Pěkov between the Broumov Walls and Ostaš

Pěkov combines hilly landscapes, protected nature and several clearly distinct opportunities for active and cultural days. The hilly terrain of Pěkov lies between approximately 500 and 694 metres above sea level. Pěkov is located in the Broumov Protected Landscape Area. Ostaš, Špičák and Supí Hnízdo are nearby; Velká kupa is located in the area around Pěkov. Thus, protected landscapes and prominent elevations meet around the village. For a cycling loop, the KČT cycle route 4001 is a good option: it is a 30-kilometre circular route of the “Vyhlídková cesta” that leads back to Pasa (Pěkov). The route can be planned as a clearly defined loop, while the hiking route describes a course through Pěkov and onwards towards Ostaš. The two options therefore offer different accents for an active day, without requiring the same means of transport.

Local History and Chapel

The history of the village also goes back a long way. The first written mention of Pěkov dates from 1395. Pěkov was probably founded around 1256 during the colonisation of the so-called polický újezd. The span of time between the probable foundation and the first written mention makes the history of the village a distinct part of the trip. The Panny Marie Pomocné Chapel is located in Pěkov. It has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since January 2001 and thus forms an independent cultural point of reference in the village. Those who would like to combine natural experiences with history will find not only trails and landscapes here, but also a specific destination within the village.

Ostaš is a mountain near Pěkov and an isolated table mountain in the area around Police nad Metují. Its characteristic features include extensive views and distinctive rock formations. Špičák and Supí Hnízdo are other mountains near Pěkov, while Velká kupa lies in the area around the village. In the wider regional surroundings of Pěkov are the castles Zamek Rogowiec, Ścinawka Górna - Renesansowy dwór and Grodno Zagórze śl - Zamek muzeum. Muchołapka is a monument there.
