Urbanice – Cycling Routes, Village History and Local Discoveries

Urbanice between Cycling Routes and Village History

Urbanice offers several ways to make your stay both active and connected to the local area. You can follow cycling routes through the village, discover traces of history, and get to know different aspects of the community through the cultural centre or the local playground. When choosing accommodation in Urbanice, it is particularly interesting to consider whether you would like to focus on a cycling trip, local history or shared experiences with children.

Cycling Routes with Different Courses

The In the Footsteps of Libraries cycling route runs through Urbanice between Libčany and Praskačka. Another route description leads from Hvozdnice via Urbanice, Praskačka and Sedlice onwards to Žižkovec. Urbanice is therefore located both on the connection between Libčany and Praskačka and on the route from Hvozdnice via Urbanice, Praskačka and Sedlice to Žižkovec.

Cycling route 4199 also passes through Urbanice. The locally described course follows a paved road, then turns right onto another local paved road and crosses the railway line. There is also an underpass on cycle routes 4199 and 4291, intended to allow cyclists to pass through smoothly. In the vicinity of Urbanice is Praskačka railway station, located on the border with the neighbouring municipality; it lies on the Hradec Králové–Velký Osek railway line. During the summer months, cyclists and inline skaters stop at the Na Hřišti restaurant in Urbanice.

Village Life and Experiences for Families

Urbanice's children's playground offers swings, a slide with a play castle, climbing frames, a merry-go-round, a table tennis table and workout equipment. The cultural centre complements this more active side with an assembly hall where lectures as well as small concerts or performances take place. This allows you to alternate between outdoor activity and events in the village when planning your day, provided that such events are being offered.

Historical Traces and Local Traditions

Urbanice is documented in written records from 1465 and 1558. Among the visible reminders of the past is the Panna Maria statue group, erected in 1908. It is located between houses Nos. 33 and 26, opposite house No. 46.

At the edge of the municipal forest on the road to Pašát stands a monument honouring Jan Hus. It was erected by the volunteer fire brigade in Urbanice at its own expense and unveiled on 30 June 1929. Pašát is also associated with a local tradition: according to it, knights led by Petr ze Stěžer are hidden in the hill.

The zvonička, or small bell tower, also tells a story of several historical layers. A new zvonička was built in 1929 after the previous one, which had stood since 1860, fell into disrepair and threatened to collapse. The bell of the zvonička in Urbanice bears the year 1803 – a detail that gives the structure an additional historical dimension.
