Šaplava between local history and the cycle path

Šaplava combines a long local history with concrete opportunities for walking, mushroom picking and cycling. The first written mention of Šaplava dates from 1381. Historical evidence in the village

House No. 22 is described in Šaplava as a typical wooden dwelling. Another distinctive landmark is the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. It was erected in 1764 at the expense of resident Jan Buček and is registered as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic under object number 101778. At that time, a wooden bell tower with a bell was also erected next to the statue. The year and the connection with the bell tower give this monument a clearly dated historical context.

The crucifixion statue Ukřižování also has its own historical trace. It was erected in 1794. On its front, the inscription “Tato štatuje je pozdvižena pro čest a chválu Boží” is carved in Schwabacher script, a historical type of writing. Those interested in local monuments and their details will find here not only a year, but also a preserved text as a direct part of the object. The monument to the victims of the First World War was completely reconstructed in 2012 and adds a 20th-century testimony to the village’s historical points of reference.

Walks, mushrooms and cycling

The Králický potok flows through Šaplava. The surrounding landscape is suitable for walking and mushroom picking. This allows you to shape your stay in different ways: you can explore the local history through individual buildings and monuments or focus on the landscape outside the village.

A cycle path also runs through Šaplava. The cycle route passing through the village is suitable for trekking or road bikes and runs along paved roads. There is a rest stop for cycle tourists at the local sports field. It has a paved area measuring 9 × 6 metres, six benches and a cycling map. The rest stop is therefore a specifically described point of orientation for local cycle traffic.

The Pouťový den took place in Šaplava on 6 July 2024 and 11 July 2026. At the event on 11 July 2026, the programme for children included competitions, games and a bouncy castle. A second Silvestrovský výšlap took place in the area around Šaplava on 31 December 2024. This past event adds to the local calendar an occasion connected with physical activity in the landscape, without implying that it will become a regular future event.
