Water and Greenery in the Townscape

Extensive bodies of water lie on the western edge of the town, offering opportunities for angling throughout the year. This gives Roudnice a distinctive landscape character that differs from the facilities in the centre. There, extensive lawns and well-maintained green spaces shape the townscape. The Roudnický potok also flows through the centre.

Sports and Summer Events

The V Lesejčku area includes a natural amphitheatre and a multi-purpose sports field with an artificial surface. Cultural events take place at the Přírodní divadlo in summer. The Na starém hřišti sports ground in the centre has modern facilities for fire brigade sports and other sporting activities.

Memory, Tradition and Local History

An important historical landmark is the Roudnice war memorial. It was unveiled on 11 September 1921. Memorial ceremonies with the laying of flowers take place there every year on 5 May and 28 October. These fixed dates are among the town’s recurring public forms of remembrance. The social year in Roudnice begins with carol singing on Epiphany and the ball season; local traditions thus extend from the beginning of the year through to the memorial ceremonies held later in the year.

The history of the town’s buildings and settlement can also be seen in several places. The first written mention of Roudnice dates from 1384. The medieval and modern-era town centre is designated as a Category ÚAN I archaeological area. This area comprises places with confirmed archaeological finds or where the occurrence of archaeological finds is reasonably presumed. The designation describes an archaeological classification and does not indicate a particular visitor attraction. A remnant of the former fortress survives as an inconspicuous terrain edge north of the road and west of the agricultural complex. The year 1384 and the remains of the former fortress thus point to different layers of time in Roudnice’s history.

The Roudnice cemetery chapel is part of the more recent architectural history: its roof, including the tower, was completely reconstructed in 2017. Nearby, the former Půlpánův sklípek points to an earlier use; it served for cooling milk. Both examples complement the archaeological perspective with architectural and everyday historical traces.

The elevation figure describes the route of the cycle path, not a gradient or a specific route length. This means that the route remains a distinct aspect alongside the bodies of water, green spaces, sports facilities and historic sites.
