Mlékosrby – Church, Cidlina and Village Culture

Mlékosrby combines a remarkable village history with a landscape shaped by the Cidlina River. Anyone wishing to combine culture, local traditions and peaceful nature experiences while travelling through the Czech Republic will find several distinct points of interest here: a church with a Baroque history, a chapel, folk architecture, a regionally significant landscape area and a recurring folk festival.

Church, chapel and local history

The Church of St Philip and St James has a Baroque core dating from 1709. It also contains the Kinský family crypt, which was established in 1818 and expanded in the 1930s. This means that the history of the village can be explored not only through the building’s external appearance, but also through a specific historical detail. Another stop on the tour of the local religious architecture is the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes. František Hladík built it in 1898; following its most recent restoration to date, it was ceremonially blessed on 15 September 2018. Cidlina, floodplain and Mlékosrbský Forest

The Cidlina River flows through the municipal area of Mlékosrby. There, the Cidlina corridor includes an extensive floodplain and a clearly defined valley floor with a large proportion of permanently grass-covered land. The Mlékosrbský Forest is also part of this natural area. It is designated as the regional biocentre RBC150 and extends across Kosice, Mlékosrby and Písek. The forest is accessible from Mlékosrby for short-term recreation. Those seeking a change between exploring the village and experiencing the landscape during their stay can thus enjoy different themes at the same destination without losing sight of the village’s cultural character. Mlékosrby is also home to a mildly thermal mineral spring with a temperature of approximately 20 °C. It is rich in dissolved substances, particularly carbon dioxide. The now-defunct baths at Jelínky, where Božena Němcová stayed in August 1861, were located near the mineral spring. This connection links the local natural environment with a specific literary-historical reference, without equating the spring with current bathing or spa treatments.

Folk festival and regional food products

The Mlékosrbský Jarmark is a recurring local folk festival. It includes market stalls, attractions, demonstrations of old technology, and presentations of historical uniforms, customs and traditions. Depending on your interests, you can therefore experience various forms of local culture here: crafts and market activity, historical presentations and traditional festival customs. The municipal area has motor-vehicle traffic and public bus services, as well as routes for cyclists and pedestrians. Luková railway stop on line 040 from Chlumec nad Cidlinou to Ostroměř is located less than one kilometre west of Mlékosrby.
