Osičky – Rural Landscape, Cycle Path and Village History

Osičky combines a gently rolling agricultural landscape with a specifically described cycle path and a remarkably multifaceted village history. The village is located at an elevated position on the southern edge of the escarpment of the Urbanická furrow. Cycling to the Edge of the Village

KČT cycle path 4198 turns off from Osice towards Osičky and runs to the edge of the village. At the edge of Osičky, by the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, the same cycle path continues towards Dobřenice along an unpaved field track. The unpaved field track is easily passable on ordinary bicycles.

For planning an excursion, the condition of the second section is particularly interesting: it is not a paved road, but an unpaved field track explicitly considered easily passable for ordinary bicycles. Landscape and Public Places

Osičky lies in a gently rolling, fertile agricultural landscape. Its elevated position and location on the southern edge of the Urbanická furrow give the village a clearly defined landscape setting. In the western outskirts of Osičky, there is a spring pond on the Černská strouha. In addition, there are public green spaces around a revitalized fire-water reservoir and behind the children’s playground. One of the notable structures is the niche chapel with a bell tower. It is built of brick; the bell tower has a roof, and beneath it there is an altar in a glazed niche. Another historical point of reference is the monument to those who fell in the First World War. It consists of a sandstone monolith with a relief of the state emblem and a commemorative plaque for the fallen soldiers of the municipality of Vosičky. Archaeological finds attest to prehistoric settlement in what is now Osičky. The written history also reaches back to the Middle Ages: from the 11th century onward, Osičky belonged to Opatovice Monastery. The economic history also has its own distinctive detail. Before the Second World War, local shareholders founded the Družstevní sušárna čekanky, a cooperative chicory dryer, in Osičky.
