Věšín in the southwestern Brdy region: Chapel, peaks and hiking trails

Valley, chapel and peaks

The Chapel of Saint Francis Seraphicus stands in the centre of Věšín. From there, you can see the Třemšín peak, at 827 m, to the south and the Praha peak, at 863 m, to the north. The two peaks provide the valley with a clear spatial orientation and make the chapel a prominent reference point for exploring the village.

Building and craft history

The chapel was built from 1898 to 1905 and consecrated in 1905. The local history also includes the KOVO Věšín production cooperative. It was founded on 24 July 1892 by 39 nail makers at the U Šenkýřů inn in Věšín. The foundation adds a specific history of local nail-making to the history of the chapel. Thus, alongside the landscape, you will also encounter tangible evidence of the local building and craft history.

Hiking destinations from Teslíny

Teslíny is one of the starting points for the 13-kilometre, easy educational trail Naučná stezka Okolím Padrťských rybníků. From Teslíny, the Padrťské ponds are freely accessible to pedestrians and cyclists via green- and red-marked hiking trails. The educational trail therefore combines a set distance with an explicitly easy classification; the paths to the ponds additionally identify pedestrians and cyclists as possible users. This allows you to distinguish between an educational trail described as easy and marked access routes to the ponds.

Another route passes the chapel in Věšín and the municipal office on the village square. It then continues along an unmarked, easily passable field track towards the Obžera pond and the Skalice (Vlčava) River. The route places the village centre, village square, pond and river in an understandable sequence.

From Teslíny, Teslín Monastery can be reached via green- and red-marked hiking trails. Teslín Monastery is the ruin of a Benedictine provostry founded around 1353, a branch of Ostrovský Monastery. The path thus leads to a clearly defined historical landmark.

Getsemanka and protected forests

The Getsemanka Nature Reserve lies in the area surrounding Věšín. It is considered the largest nature reserve in the CHKO Brdy Protected Landscape Area and protects species-rich, open scree forests, old shady, damp beech forests and connecting younger beech stands. A forest area with several protected habitat types thus complements the village and pond routes with another landscape area in the surrounding region. From Teslíny, a green-marked trail leads to a yellow route that runs through the Getsemanka I and Getsemanka II nature reserves.

When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore distinguish between Věšín’s connection with the village, chapel and views of the peaks, and Teslíny as the starting point for several of the routes described.
