Třtice – History, Ponds and Cycling Routes

Třtice combines a long local history with pond landscapes, protected nature and a cycling route linking several bodies of water in the region. Pond Landscapes and Protected Nature

Bucek Pond is located in the cadastral area of Třtice and covers 24.5 hectares. Its characteristic surroundings include two protected pedunculate oaks that are more than 400 years old. Their roots reinforce the embankment at Bucek Pond. Thus, alongside the water surface itself, this landscape area also features a remarkable example of old-growth trees. The V Bahnách Nature Reserve reveals another side of the local natural environment. Aquatic, wetland and meadow plant communities are protected there. The reserve is also home to animal communities on peat and marshland, including rare and specially protected species. These include round-leaved sundew and common butterwort. Cycling Between Several Ponds

The 21-kilometre cycling route No. 8192, “Novostrašecko”, runs through the cadastral areas of Řevničov, Třtice, Mšec, Mšecké Žehrovice and Nové Strašecí. Its distinctive character lies in the succession of several bodies of water: the route follows the embankments and shores of the Třtický, Bucký, Malá Punčocha, Velká Punčocha, Mlýnský, Pilský, Červený and Lodenický ponds. The route is therefore defined not only by its length, but also by the sequence of landscapes along it. It serves as a useful reference for anyone wishing to combine cycling with a variety of pond landscapes during their stay. At the same time, it shows that Třtice is part of a broader regional context, without suggesting that the individual cadastral areas should be combined into a single village.

Local History and the Church of Saint Nicholas

Třtice was already inhabited in the Stone Age; the first written references date from the 14th century. The Church of Saint Nicholas is a particularly vivid focal point of the village’s history. It stands in the centre of the village on a slight rise. A priest of its own is documented there as early as the 13th century. The originally Gothic church was rebuilt in Baroque form after a fire in the second quarter of the 18th century. It is a single-nave building. The nave is 11 metres long and 8 metres wide and is closed by a barrel vault. Those interested in historic places can therefore trace here not only a date, but also the architectural development from the Gothic structure to its Baroque reconstruction.

Accommodation and Events

Bucek Cottage Camp offers 10 cabins, each with a capacity of 3 people. There are also pitches for private tents, caravans and motorhomes. The events calendar also showcases various aspects of the village. The Bucek Triathlon takes place every year on a Saturday around the transition from July to August and is open to everyone. The “Vánoční běh” winter run is held regularly on 26 December. The SPOLU Festival was held in Třtice on 31 August 2024 as a festival for children and adults, and on 30 August 2025 as a children’s festival.
