Discover Lubná: Village Center, Planetary Trail and History

Lubná combines a gently undulating agricultural landscape with an unusually well-preserved historic village center and a varied history. The center is characterized by gable-fronted houses and farmsteads arranged around a large oval village square, preserved there in a unique form. At the same time, paths, a scale-model Planetary Trail and various traces of the village’s history offer different ways to discover Lubná.

Landscape Between Streams and Quarry

Lubná lies in a gently undulating, agriculturally used landscape between the valley of the Rakovnický potok to the north and Senecká hora to the south. The Černý potok rises in the territory of Lubná and is a right-bank tributary of the Rakovnický potok. The geology of the surrounding area is also part of the village’s character: the Kamenolom Brant quarry extends across the cadastral territories of Lubná u Rakovníka and Senec u Rakovníka. There, a powerful vein of quartz diorite porphyry cuts through shales and greywackes of the Neoproterozoic.

Local History from the Middle Ages to Mining

The earliest written mention of Lubná names the place in 1057 as “Luben”. The Paleolithic settlement makes Lubná one of the most significant Gravettian sites in Czech territory. In the 19th century, the village’s development was shaped by the discovery of hard coal and, several decades later, shale, as well as their gradual extraction. The Sv. Rocha shaft was opened in 1821 as the first shaft.

The Church of St. George is part of the village’s architectural history. This rural church building with late Baroque elements was erected on the site of a medieval church dating from the 14th century. Together with the preserved houses and farmsteads around the village square, it makes the development of the village legible through various historical traces.

Hiking, Cycling and the Planetary Trail

The Planetary Trail depicts the Solar System at a scale of 1:1 billion. It comprises 12 stations with information panels. The distances between the celestial bodies shown correspond accurately to scale with the distances to be walked between the stations. This means that the idea behind the model can be not only read about but also followed spatially along the individual stations.

Lubná also has a red-marked hiking route maintained by the KČT. A cycle path leads from Lubná to Rakovník. In the surrounding area, a renovated municipal path along the airport grounds offers opportunities for walks and cycling trips. A new 4.7-kilometer circular route runs from Lubná along the airport grounds to the Lubná–Rakovník cycle route. Transport Information and an Important Access Restriction

Lubná railway station is located on regional, single-track, non-electrified railway line No. 162 between Rakovník and Kralovice. When comparing Lubná as a travel destination, you can therefore include both the rail connection and the cycle path to Rakovník in your wider planning.

Access to Kamenolom Brant is clearly restricted: the site includes a military area, a quarry and private properties and may be entered only with special permission. This information is crucial for planning your trip.
