Souňov – between forests, ponds and village culture

Souňov combines a varied landscape with small but remarkable cultural features. The village lies southwest of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands at an elevation of 300 metres. Its surroundings include a valley, ponds and adjoining forests. This makes the village particularly suitable if you would like to combine nature experiences with regional history and traditional events.

Forests, ponds and paths for active days

Another historical reference is the Souňovský, Nový, Malý mlýn. It is located in the cadastral area of Souňov on the Medenický stream, below the dam of a pond created to supply the mill with water. According to the date marked on a post of the mill structure, the mill was built in 1671 by Cistercians from the Sedlecer Monastery. Its location on the stream and below the pond dam explains the close connection between the mill and the water landscape, without any further present-day uses being inferred from this.

Traditions and events

Traditional cultural and sporting events take place in Souňov. These include the erection of maypoles, the burning of witches, a Children's Day, summer sports competitions, St Nicholas celebrations and a meeting around the Christmas tree.
