Historic Character and Rural Experiences

Slapy-Nedvezi combines a remarkable historic complex of buildings with rural experiences centred around a farm. Nedvězí Fortress is an architectural complex whose individual buildings have preserved their authentic medieval character. In the so-called Old Courtyard, Romanesque-Gothic remains survive in basement rooms beneath newer buildings. Here, history can therefore be encountered not only in a single façade, but also in preserved parts of the building. It is precisely this combination of visible architecture and preserved basement rooms that gives the historic site its layered character: a visit draws attention both to the individual buildings and to the traces preserved beneath them.

The Nedvězí Fortress complex, along with the farm buildings and surrounding area, was reconstructed in 1995 and 1996. An organic farm was also established during this period. The access road to Grand Farma Michael leads between enclosures with Aberdeen Angus cattle, sheep and horses to the fortress. The journey itself thus connects the agricultural surroundings with the historic destination.

Horse Riding and Events at Grand Farma Michael

Grand Farma Michael in Nedvěží offers year-round rides in both the English and Western styles. Accompanied by an experienced instructor, children can take part in rides around the farm or train on the lunge. This provides different forms of horse-riding experience without requiring you to commit to a single riding style. The English and Western styles are presented as distinct forms of the same offering; together with lunge training, they provide a varied introduction to riding.

Grand Farma Michael is normally not open to the public. Visits are possible when a public event is taking place there. During the Easter weekend of 2026, traditional Easter workshops were held for children and adults, including the making of Easter wreaths. Such dates therefore need to be included in the specific planning of a stay, while the year-round rides are a separate offering.

Hills, Mountains and Views

Several elevations lie in the immediate vicinity of Nedvěží: Kolátov [Krňany-Teletín] is a hill, Jáchym is a mountain, and Vesely is also a mountain. Another landscape perspective is offered by the Rabyňská viewpoint near Nová Rabyně. From there, there is a view of the Slapy Reservoir; refreshments are also available there. This combination places the destination at the intersection of culture, activity and a waterside landscape.

The Slapy Reservoir lies approximately 40 km south of Prague on the Vltava, at the site of the former Svatojánské Rapids.
