Discover Miřetice: History and Rolling Hills
Accommodation in Miřetice
Miřetice is a place for travelers who want to explore historical heritage and a hilly landscape together. Its local history dates back to a record from 1274; the chapel and memorial add to the older traces. At the same time, the settlement lies on a hill shaped by Vršek in the Vlašim Uplands. Visitors planning a stay will find two distinct perspectives here: the long history of the place and its named landscape features.
Historical traces spanning several centuries
A historical record from 1274 reports that Vladyka Čechan had a fortress built in Miřetice, where he conducted his affairs. The settlement was later called Čechany; Vladyka himself later took the byname Čechan z Miřetic. These names connect the early history of the place with its development and changing names.
The Kmetí dvůr in Miřetice is documented from 1468 to 1550. In 1550, it was divided into four smaller farms. This division marks a specific point in the history of the farm and adds a change in the local farms to the historical record.
Chapel, memorial and local history
The chapel in Miřetice dates from 1852, is dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk and has a bell tower. Its construction date places it chronologically between the accounts of the fortress and the 1930 memorial. The chapel thus combines a precise construction date with a clearly named dedication.
A memorial was erected in 1930 with donations from residents in memory of the nine men from Miřetice who did not return from the First World War. The reason for the memorial and its funding go hand in hand: it commemorates the men from the village and was built with contributions from local residents.
Karel Filip was from Miřetice and worked as a professor of music in Budapest. His biography takes us beyond the village and connects Miřetice with his professional work in the Hungarian capital.
Rolling hills and views
Miřetice lies in the Vlašim Uplands on a hill shaped by Vršek. Javornická hůra and Židův kopec can be seen from Vršek. The three names provide specific points of reference in the landscape: Vršek shapes the hill, while the other two elevations add to the described views. This makes it possible to see Miřetice both as a specific place and as part of the Vlašim Uplands.
Plan your journey and stay
Bus services run from Miřetice to Vlašim, Benešov, Pelhřimov and Prague. If you are planning trips to these destinations, it is worth checking the timetable for your travel dates. This will help you take the connections into account when choosing where to stay.
Visitors can use a spacious car park at the sports complex in Miřetice. For drivers, this car park is a practical point of reference when planning their arrival. Together with the bus services, it offers another practical consideration when deciding how to plan your stay.
Local traditions
A holy mass was held at the Na Vršku cross. The gathering provided an opportunity for communal prayer, conversation among neighbors and remembrance of local traditions. This occasion combines religious observance with neighborly exchange and adds a community perspective to the historical traces of the place.
