MÅ¡ec Castle and Its Architectural History

MÅ¡ec Castle was built on the site of a medieval fortress in several construction phases. The castle building contains Renaissance elements, including a portal; it is a Baroque structure from the 18th century and was remodeled in the Neoclassical style in the 19th century. This sequence brings several eras together in a single building. The courtyard of MÅ¡ec Castle and the castle park are freely accessible; however, the castle park is neglected. MÅ¡ec Castle is generally not open to visitors. Every June, a public tour with a historical exhibition takes place.

Museum and Church Complex

The Mšec Museum presents the history of the town of Mšec in three exhibition rooms and displays a 3 × 4 meter diorama of the town. This allows you to encounter local history both in the exhibition rooms and in a large-scale representation. The listed church complex of the Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria in Mšec includes the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk, an enclosing wall with a mortuary, the rectory at No. 45, the gate of the rectory grounds, a barn and the designated plots belonging to the complex. The Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria in Mšec is a late Baroque church dating from 1780 and replaced an older church of Gothic origin.

Getting There and Planning Your Stay

The easiest way to reach MÅ¡ec is by car. Bus connections to MÅ¡ec are good only on weekdays; there is no railway connection to MÅ¡ec. When planning your stay or choosing accommodation, you should therefore consider your travel day and preferred means of transport together. Those arriving by public transport should factor into their plans the difference between the good weekday bus connections and the lack of a railway connection.
