Discover Družec: Natural Monument, Calvary and Culture

Družec combines sacred history, protected nature and paths for shared discoveries. At its heart is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the oldest building in Družec. At the same time, its special sites range from the Pod Veselovem Natural Monument to the viewpoint at Družecká Calvary. This allows you to combine culture, landscape and a route for cyclists and pedestrians.

Church, pilgrimage and traces in stone

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was rebuilt in its present form in the Baroque style between 1688 and 1690. Near the church in the centre of Družec stands a column with a statue of the Virgin Mary. At the cemetery wall near the church entrance, there is also an approximately life-sized, irregularly shaped sandstone block: družecký Zkamenělec.

The town's religious history also includes the old, legendary Gothic wooden statue of the Virgin Mary with the infant Jesus. It was associated with annual pilgrimages and processions. The statue of Saint Peter of Alcantara stands on the road to Doksy, about 60 metres from the cemetery. It is the only one of the four statues of saints that once stood in Družec and the surrounding area to have survived to this day.

Nature along the Loděnice

The Kačák River Basin Nature Park stretches through Družec along the corridor of the Loděnice stream. The Pod Veselovem Natural Monument lies on the eastern edge of the built-up area. It protects a site where the black pasqueflower (Pulsatilla pratensis nigricans) grows. In addition to its historic attractions, Družec therefore also offers a specific connection with nature that can be taken into account when planning a varied day trip.

Cycling and walking between Družec and Doksy

The Družec–Doksy route is a shared path for cyclists and pedestrians, separated from motor traffic. The Družec–Doksy connection is suitable for families with children. It is therefore a clearly described way to connect Družec and Doksy along a single route, without limiting your travel plans to one sightseeing point.

Calvary with a viewpoint

Družecká Calvary (U tří křížů) is a viewpoint on a rocky promontory above the Loděnice stream (Kačák). From the village square in Družec, an approximately 500-metre-long path leads there; it is initially paved and grassy at the end. The roughly 500 metres combine a path, a view and religious history into a clearly defined section for day planning. Three crosses stand side by side at the highest point; they commemorate the crucifixion of Christ and the victims of the plague who died at the beginning of the 19th century. On 23 May 2026, the 34th edition of the Družecká šlápota tourist hiking event also took place in Družec.
