The municipality lies in an old settlement area northwest of Prague, in a gently hilly landscape that was originally shaped exclusively by agriculture. This combination of settlement history and rural character gives Dobrovíz its own direction for travel planning, without equating the village with the nearby capital.

The historic character is particularly tangible in the Dobrovíz village heritage conservation reserve. It was designated in 1995 and is an ensemble of folk architecture. The façades and alterations date predominantly from the 19th century, while the cores of some buildings go back as far as the 17th century. Thus, older building cores in some cases stand alongside predominantly newer façades and alterations. The protected building ensemble is concentrated mainly around the village square and comprises eleven protected cultural monuments. For orientation, this area therefore forms the most important thematic reference point for the protected village architecture.

Chapels and Protected Village Architecture

The protected Chapel of the Virgin Mary is part of the village heritage conservation reserve: it is listed there as a protected object and is a late Baroque chapel from the 18th century. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is a detached rectangular building with a semicircular end and a square tower on the façade. The differing architectural details make the chapels a particularly concrete entry point into the building history of Dobrovíz.

Another historical focal point is Žákův Mill. The mill is a significant surviving relic of the historic milling system on the Zákolanský stream in the stream's floodplain. The present buildings date from the mid-18th century. Alongside village architecture, the former milling industry thus also represents part of the history of the place. One current note is relevant for orientation: the Vánoční dvůr Dobrovíz shop is permanently closed. Therefore, do not plan it as a destination for a visit.
