Vodranty – Water Landscape and Small Cultural Monuments

Vodranty combines a water-shaped environment with small cultural monuments whose history dates back to the 19th century. This former use must be distinguished from the current situation: the municipality points to a deterioration in water quality. The reasons for this include, in particular, reduced water inflow and rotting deposits of leaves and branches from the surrounding mature trees. For your planning, Nový rybník should therefore be regarded primarily as a specific landscape feature with a documented former swimming tradition, not as a general current swimming option.

Křížek, Kaplička and the History of the Village

Křížek stands at a wayside cross about 200 m beyond Vodranty in the direction of Močovice, in the shade of two mature lime trees. It dates from 1880 and was donated by Marie Vařečková from Vodranty. In spring 2018, the monument was restored: it was cleaned, and the statue of Jesus Christ was also renewed with gold leaf. The site therefore combines a precise historical date, a donor known by name and visible conservation work.

Local remembrance also includes the Československá lípa svobody. It was planted in Vodranty in May 1920 and replanted in the same spot on 28 October 1946. The Kaplička probably dates from the second half of the 19th century. A footpath was laid from the road to the entrance doors of the bell tower. In this way, Vodranty offers the opportunity to include not only natural sites but also smaller testimonies to local history in your exploration.
