Budiměřice: Local History, Events and the Mrlina
Budiměřice: Local History and Activity
Budiměřice offers several different starting points for planning your trip: a remarkable church history, local events, sports in the municipality, and an 18 km section of the Mrlina designated as a water sports route.
Church of St. Procopius and Protected History
A historical landmark in Budiměřice is the Church of St. Procopius. At the latest since the first written mention of the village in 1374, Budiměřice had a Gothic church dedicated to St. Procopius. The present Church of St. Procopius is a Neo-Romanesque building constructed between 1879 and 1881 by J. Kalous from Poděbrady. The first written mention of the village in 1374 and the present building from the late 19th century mark two clearly dated stages in the local history.
The protected area of the Church of St. Procopius includes the church, its enclosure and the associated grounds.
Events and Sports in the Village
Events also give Budiměřice a local character. The first Budiměřický Budík run in 2020 was followed by a second edition. The second run began in Budiměřice by the church. The run thus combines the village’s historical landmark with a sporting occasion. The Budimky Cup programme included music for dancing and listening in the evening.
The Prokopská zábava on the evening of Saturday, 5 July, was planned as a traditional summer dance event on an outdoor dance floor. If you are interested in local celebrations and community events, you will find different forms of local cultural life here: a run, an evening programme with music and a summer dance event.
The sports complex next to the football pitch also provides a sporting complement. ATP Budiměřice manages a municipal tennis court there. The tennis court adds a different focus from the individual events: it is part of the sports complex next to the football pitch and extends the sporting side of the village beyond the run. The combination of the historic village centre, event-related attractions and a sports facility offers various ways to explore Budiměřice by theme without reducing the village to a single attraction.
The Mrlina as a Water Sports Route
Another point of reference for your planning is the Mrlina. On it, an 18 km section from Bučický rybník to the municipality of Budiměřice is designated as a water sports route. At 18 kilometres, the watercourse forms a distinct route theme and complements the cultural themes with water and activity. For your trip planning, the Mrlina can therefore be considered alongside the church, events and sports in the village as a separate landscape focus.
