Valašské Klobouky: Culture, Nature and Discoveries

A Town Between History and Landscape

Valašské Klobouky lies at the northern tip of the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area and at the same time in a valley basin surrounded by hills. As a result, protected landscapes, historic architecture and a variety of excursion destinations come together here. For you, this means a destination where sightseeing, nature experiences, cycling and time by the water can be combined in different daily itineraries.

Historic Traces in the Town

A defining area is the town’s heritage conservation zone. It was designated in 1995 and protects valuable historic buildings in the town centre. Among the most notable historic landmarks is the Church of the Elevation of the Holy Cross, whose core dates back to the 1340s. In front of the Old Town Hall stands a stone pillory from the 16th century, one of the oldest surviving pillories in the Czech Republic. The Valašské Klobouky Town Museum is located in the Old Town Hall.

For a deeper look at the local architectural history, Červený dům is well worth visiting. It is the second building of the town museum and presents an exhibition on clothmaking as well as linen production and dyeing. Soukenická jizba also contains a functioning loom. This means that the town’s former textile work is not merely an exhibition topic but is illustrated by a concrete piece of equipment in the building.

The architecture of Hubert Gessner is also represented in the town. The offering comprises two complementary exhibitions; the first is located in the town museum on the square, in the Old Town Hall building. Bratmannova Vila was designed by Hubert Gessner and is one of the first new buildings in Valašské Klobouky constructed after the fire of 1896. Josef Bratmann’s house had already been designed by the architect Hubert Gessner in 1895. The historic townscape is complemented by the Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius, built in the Neo-Gothic style.

Nature, Cycling Routes and Outdoor Swimming

Above Valašské Klobouky, on the ridge between the peaks of Královec and Požár, lies the unique Ščúrnica fir-and-beech primeval forest. The surrounding landscape can also be explored on various cycling routes. The Bevlava Cycle Route includes a section from Valašské Klobouky via Brumov-Bylnice to Svatý Štěpán. Another cross-border, educational cycle tourism route with a total length of 35 km begins in Valašské Klobouky. The surrounding area also features a 7 km circular route through an attractive landscape.

For days with children, the Valašské Klobouky outdoor swimming pool offers several clearly distinct water areas: a swimming pool for adults, a children’s pool with two slides and a children’s paddling pool. Moštuj, a cider mill in Valašské Klobouky that produces apple juices, including flavoured varieties, adds a regional touch. The town’s offerings thus range from protected nature and active routes to local history, crafts, architecture and local products.
