Sehradice: Culture, Landscapes and Hiking Trails

Sehradice lies in the valley of the Horní Olšava at an average elevation of 316 metres. The town combines a distinctive musical tradition with landscapes, historical traces and paths that allow for different ways of exploring the area. Landscape Between the Valley and the Nature Park

The Vizovické vrchy Nature Park lies in the northern part of Sehradice. The town’s agricultural land also has a distinct character: meadows and pastures make up the largest share. Thus, alongside the settled valley, open landscapes are a central feature. The landscape of the Bílé Karpaty also includes flower-rich meadows with solitary oaks, oak-hornbeam forests and mountain beech forests. These landscape elements differ significantly from one another and give a trip several possible focal points, from open meadows to woodland areas.

History and Visible Cultural Monuments

Sehradice was founded on a trade route that led from Trenčín via the Vlárský Pass to Olomouc. In the surrounding area, Sehrad Castle, also known as Engelsberk or Tetov, was built above Horní Lhota at the end of the 13th century. Its ruins reveal the individual ramparts of the complex outer fortification, slight wall remnants and a rise where the tower once stood. This description preserves the historical character of the site: what has survived are ruins and recognisable traces in the terrain, not a present-day castle complex.

Another specific testimony can be found in the centre of Sehradice: a cross registered as an immovable cultural monument stands there. In addition, the municipality digitised the 1936 Memorial Book of the Municipality of Sehradice. Cultural orientation therefore extends from the medieval trade route and castle remains to documented 20th-century community life.

Music, Regional Traditions and Cuisine

The town’s musical history is closely linked to the Maňas family. František Maňas was born in Sehradice and wrote more than 100 dance and light-entertainment compositions. Václav Maňas composed more than 100 popular works for wind and concert bands. Cultural traditions include the Maňasovy Sehradice music festival. The 27th edition of the brass-band festival in Sehradice was announced for 21 June 2026 at 3:00 p.m.; this date is already in the past.

Regional cuisine also has its own dedicated event. The Sehradský Gulášfest reached its third edition in 2025. For an admission fee, visitors could taste and rate all the goulash dishes on offer. The local character also includes the fact that Sehradice is known for growing plums and apples.

Educational Trail and Route to Sehrad Castle

The educational trail Literárně-historické toulky Slavičínskem begins in Sehradice and ends in Luhačovice. It is intended for pedestrians and uses information boards. This allows you to choose a route that connects Sehradice as a starting point with literary and historical themes and continues beyond a designated destination.

Separate from this, a blue-marked hiking trail in the surrounding area is described as leading from a stop to the ruins of Sehrad Castle. The route is just under 2 km long. For planning purposes, there are therefore two different route descriptions: the longer educational trail between Sehradice and Luhačovice, and the blue-marked route of just under 2 km to the castle ruins.
