Újezd and Valašské Klobouky
Between Church History, Forest and Winter Sports
Újezd and Valašské Klobouky reveal several sides of a diverse destination: historic architecture, preserved ruins, a species-rich woodland landscape, an outdoor pool for warm days and a ski area offering daily skiing during the day and in the evening. Whether you want to discover culture with your family, spend time outdoors or combine active days in summer and winter, you will find various starting points here for planning your trip.
Church, Hradištěk and Living Traditions
The parish church of Saint Nicholas stands in the village centre of Újezd. It was built in 1844 and 1845 in the Empire or Neoclassical style on the site of an older church that had been built around 1680. The church therefore tells not only of its own period of construction, but also of an older local religious history.
Other notable historical traces include the ruins of the feudal seat of Hradištěk, which have survived to this day. The site comprises an almost square acropolis surrounded by an incomplete ring of a ditch and rampart. Since autumn 1999, Hradištěk has been maintained in very good condition by the municipal office. A visit therefore combines the idea of a medieval site with visible remains of its fortifications.
Regional customs are also part of Újezd's character. During the traditional Fašanky procession of the “babkovníci”, houses are visited, and the event concludes with the burial of the bass. Christmas concerts were traditionally held in Újezd at the end of the year. Historical examples include a performance by the Valaška brass band in the church on 18 December 2011 and a concert by the Túfaranka brass band on 21 December 2014.
Újezdecký les and Paths into the Outdoors
Újezdecký les consists of old orchards as well as meadows, pastures and woodland. Its importance lies not only in its varied landscape: it provides numerous bird species with suitable nesting and feeding opportunities and is home to a diverse insect and amphibian population. Those who look more closely during an outing will therefore encounter a landscape shaped by a variety of habitats.
A traditional summer hiking trip leads from the forester's lodge in Horní Lhota via the lookout tower in Loučka to the outdoor pool in Újezd. Koupaliště Újezd has a water slide and a paddling pool for children. It is located near the former Ambruz Mill.
Intermediate Slope and Evening Skiing
During the cold season, the Újezd u Valašských Klobouk ski area is a destination in its own right. It has an intermediate slope suitable for families with children, as well as daily skiing during the day and in the evening. In 2023, the ski slope lighting was reconstructed to improve safety when skiing in the evening. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore first consider whether historical impressions, summer water activities, nature observation or winter sports should be the focus of your stay.
