Discover Březůvky: Chapel, village history and Kapřín Reservoir
Accommodation in Březůvky
Březůvky brings together cultural history, Kapřín Reservoir and its varied uses. The Chapel of St. Agnes of Bohemia, a timber-framed barn and a village tradition passed down over time each tell a different story about the place. If you are planning a stay, you can combine these historical impressions with the surroundings of the reservoir.
Chapel of St. Agnes of Bohemia
Construction of the Chapel of St. Agnes of Bohemia began in 1998. At the end of August 2002, the completed place of worship was solemnly consecrated; the ceremony took place on 31 August and was conducted by Bishop Mgr. Hrdlička. The chapel’s central image was created by academic painter Marie Molová from Prague. The chapel can be seen from the western edge of the municipality. Its construction, consecration and artwork offer several specific points of interest for those interested in religious art and local history.
Monument and village tradition
A timber-framed barn stands on plot 27 in the cadastral area of Březůvky. It is considered a monument of exceptional importance to the municipality and the entire Luhačovické Zálesí region. Its significance rests on both its history and its material and architectural design.
An earlier custom offers a different glimpse of the village’s history: people wearing masks and costumes made from pea straw, sheaves of straw and turned-out fur coats would climb a tree in the village square and deliver parodic “sermons” there. They would jokingly expose people in public; those targeted had to buy their way out of the accusations at the inn. The sequence of dressing up, making a public appearance and then paying to be let off brings this recorded custom to life. This is a historical tradition, not a description of a present-day festival.
Kapřín Reservoir and its surroundings
Kapřín Reservoir is about 200 metres long and almost 100 metres wide—according to these approximate figures, about twice as long as it is wide. According to visitor information updated in 2015, recreational swimming and sport fishing are permitted at Kapřín Reservoir free of charge. If you plan to swim there, check the current bathing conditions on site; the visitor information describes the situation at the time and does not guarantee current conditions.
Directions to the reservoir are also described specifically: the Březůvky, Na Hutích bus stop is about 100 metres uphill from the end of the small reservoir. Check bus connections before travelling. Studánka Lukáščena spring is outside the village, about one kilometre from Březůvky.

When choosing where to stay, you can also consider whether you would like to focus mainly on the chapel and local history or on the reservoir’s uses mentioned above. This way, you can tailor your search to your travel group’s interests without treating the place’s different themes as one and the same.
