Slopné – Landscape, Educational Trail and St. Roch's Church

Slopné combines a hilly landscape, much of it covered by woodland, with a marked educational trail, traditions associated with St. Roch and a small range of winter sports activities. The village lies in the valley of the Horní Olšava stream. The southern part of Slopné belongs to the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area; the northern part of the cadastral territory lies in the Vizovické vrchy Nature Park.

Landscape with paths and views

The surroundings are characterized by a mosaic of woodland, fields and meadows. Naturally winding paths and numerous views across the landscape give a stay here a distinctly rural character. A notable natural feature in Slopné is Čertovo kopyto. Those wishing to combine different landscape impressions will find both protected natural areas and open, varied spaces within the village itself.

The Josefa Váňa Educational Trail to Vizovice

The Josefa Váňa Educational Trail is a good option for a hike. It connects Slopné and Vizovice, is 5 km long and follows a yellow-marked route from Slopné via Klokočí to Vizovice. The starting point in Slopné can be reached by car or bus. After the 5 km educational trail, it is another 3.5 km to the centre of Vizovice.

Winter at the ski lift

The ski slope at the lift is approximately 400 m long, making it considerably shorter than the 5 km Josefa Váňa Educational Trail; its vertical drop is 90 m. Thanks to artificial lighting, skiing at the lift is also possible in the evening.

St. Roch, pilgrimages and local history

The cultural character of the village is closely associated with St. Roch. St. Roch's Church in Slopné was consecrated on 14 July 1996 by Jan Graubner, Archbishop of Olomouc, and is a filial church of the Újezd parish. The small pilgrimage takes place every year on the second Sunday in July to mark the anniversary of the consecration of the new church. The main pilgrimage takes place on the third Sunday in August for the Feast of St. Roch. The two dates therefore differ both in timing and in purpose.

Another trace of the local past is the stone Chapel of St. Roch, built or completed in 1824. Ore was mined in Rudovka below Klokočí. The area's technical history is complemented by a roller mill from the 19th century, preserved as a technical monument. It was restored in 1991 and continues to operate as a commercial mill.

Living traditions include an annual costumed carnival procession, now called Fašanky and formerly known as Babkovníci. The Easter customs of Klepačka and Mrskačka have also been preserved. Carnival and Easter therefore each have different traditional customs at their centre.
