Mysločovice – Culture, Cycling and Landscape

Mysločovice combines a lowland landscape in the Svodnice catchment area with predominantly agricultural, hilly terrain. It is precisely this combination of landscape, cycling opportunities and historical cultural traces that makes the town an interesting destination for a trip on which you would like to combine active days with historical discoveries.

Medieval Traces and Historic Buildings

An archaeological mound was discovered in the center of Mysločovice on the grounds of Farm No. 9. It was identified as the core of a medieval fortification with an earthen rampart. The preserved core of the fortification rises in places up to 5 m above the surrounding terrain and is 23 m long and 13 m wide.

Farm No. 9 also contains a remarkable detail in the brick wall of the barn: an oval Gothic vault keystone is set into it. On its inner side, it bears a stylized Gothic tracery motif. Palkův mlýn is also one of the town’s historical landmarks. The mill is mentioned around 1409, when it was owned by Jiřík z Kunštátu and his sister Žofka. Some of the mill’s original equipment has been preserved.

Sacred buildings include the chapel “Kaple sv. Jana Nepomuckého” and the church “Kostel Nejsvětější Trojice.” The chapel was built in 1730 and declared a cultural monument by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic on February 14, 1994. The church “Kostel Nejsvětější Trojice” was built from 1752 to 1758 on a hill in the center of the town. Its furnishings include restored Baroque organs. Linden trees protected under nature conservation law stand around the church.

Cycling with Different Route Characteristics

For families looking for a specific outdoor activity, Cyklopark Mysločovice offers a particularly clearly defined focus. It is a small, entertaining singletrack that even small children can manage while also appealing to experienced mountain bikers. The route runs through trees and combines climbs with technical descents. Some sections cross wooden bridges spanning gullies and depressions. This makes Cyklopark distinctly different from a simple connecting route.

Another option is marked cycling route No. 5034, which runs from Fryšták to Kelč through the cadastral area of Mysločovice. In addition, a new unmarked cycling route connecting Mysločovice and Sazovice was opened in autumn 2011. It is approximately 1 km long and is also intended for pedestrians. This provides both a technically oriented singletrack and marked and unmarked cycling routes for planning a day trip.

Landscape and Local Traditions

At 285 m above sea level, Háj Hill is the highest point in the Mysločovice area. Together with the predominantly agricultural, hilly terrain, it shapes the character of the local landscape. Those who would like to learn about regional customs as well as buildings can find two notable examples: Every year, the SDH maintains the carnival tradition of “vodění medvěda” in Mysločovice. Another local tradition is “Staré hanácké právo,” held every ten years in Haná costumes. The years in which it has taken place include 1928, 1949, 1965, 1977, 1987, 1997, 2007 and most recently 2017.
