Nature and Trails Around Zděchov

Zdechov combines protected landscapes with culture and various opportunities for active days. The entire cadastral area of Zděchov lies within the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Beskydy). In the surrounding area, you will find valuable natural landscapes with juniper pastures, flower-rich meadows with orchids, and preserved forests. A particularly specific natural site is located on the eastern slope of Žďár (689 m) in the cadastral area of Zděchov. There, a protected section of the typical Wallachian landscape, a so-called juniper pasture, and several orchid species have been preserved. On the eastern slope, the Wallachian landscape, the juniper pasture, and the orchid species together shape this natural site.

A 16 km running route is described for a longer tour. It leads from the car park at the Zděchov swimming pool first over the Pod Filkou saddle and the Radošov sedlo saddle, then via Skaličí and Pulčín. The stops include the Pulčín ice falls and a viewpoint overlooking the Pulčín Rocks before the route returns to Zděchov. The two saddles mark transitions within the route. Nordic walking poles can be borrowed at the Zděchov municipal office for the educational trail and the Nordic walking route.

Culture with Regional Character

The Firefighting Technology Museum in Zděchov focuses on an unusual aspect of the village’s history. Visitors can view firefighters’ uniforms, old photographs, and fire pumps there. Among the notable exhibits is a still-functioning fire engine pump from 1904. The collection thus ranges from personal equipment and historical images to firefighting technology. In this way, the museum complements the natural experiences with an engaging insight into technology and the local past.

Wallachian tradition is also present in the village: Krosienkové bonnets were traditionally made in Zděchov as part of the Wallachian folk costume. They are known as “zděcháky.” Another historic destination is the Roman Catholic Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord. It is a protected cultural monument and was built in 1778 under Maria Theresa. The church and Hajdovy Paseky represent two scales of cultural heritage: a single building and a protected village area. Hajdovy Paseky was declared a village conservation zone in 2004.

Active Days and Seasonal Options

The Zděchov sports complex includes a 360 m-long ski lift of medium difficulty with an elevation difference of 80 m. The lift area is groomed with a piste groomer. Around Zděchov, there are also numerous cross-country skiing trails that are machine-groomed when snow conditions are favorable. The winter sports options thus range from the lift at the sports complex to the trails in the surrounding area.

Outside the winter season, the swimming pool in Zděchov also offers various options: the complex includes a pool, a multifunctional sports court, a children’s paddling pool, a slide, and refreshments. The children’s paddling pool and the slide complement the main pool with dedicated facilities for children. The multifunctional sports court expands the complex beyond swimming. The Zděchovská 30 event is also held annually in Zděchov.
