Valasske Mezirici: Culture, Stars and Palace Parks

Valasske Mezirici combines historic palace complexes, unusual museums and observations of the night sky with walks through palace parks. If you are looking for a destination in the Czech Republic with a variety of experiences, you can choose between culture, nature and regional culinary experiences here, without limiting your stay to just one attraction.

Discover the stars and culture together

Hvězdárna Valašské Meziříčí offers programmes for individual visitors, families and organised groups. In good weather, you can use telescopes there to observe the Moon, planets, multiple-star systems and stars in the night sky. This makes the observatory a clearly distinct programme option: during the day, you can plan visits to palaces and museums, while suitable weather conditions allow night-time skywatching to add an experience of its own. For a cultural focus, the large Baroque palace “Zámek Žerotínů” stands in the centre of Valašské Meziříčí. Its foundation is dated to 1538. The Muzejní a galerijní centrum, with a historical exhibition, is located in the south wing. The palace complex is also a cultural centre of the town and offers a varied programme throughout the year. During the school holidays, festivals, concerts and film screenings take place in the courtyard; the palace courtyard is designed as a French park. Depending on your travel dates, you can therefore combine your palace visit with an exhibition or a cultural event.

Kinských Palace and the park as an experience in their own right

The “Zámek Kinských” palace offers a different focus. It houses the interactive permanent exhibition “Člověk v krajině, krajina v lidech” and a branch of the Muzeum regionu Valašsko. The exhibition traces the changing relationship between people and the Valašian countryside: it spans the arrival of the first prehistoric hunters in the region through to the present day. The landscape is therefore treated not merely as a backdrop, but as a subject of regional history. The park is home to the educational trail “Naučná stezka Zámecký park Kinských”. It leads through the park and includes ten stations on the creation of the grounds, their history and their natural features. An amphitheatre at the palace serves primarily in summer as a venue for cultural events. For planning your day, this creates a contrast between an informative walk with several stations and seasonal open-air events.

Crafts and regional specialities

The Muzeum řeznictví is fully accessible. An interactive exhibition featuring butchery machinery and equipment presents the history of the butchery trade. With advance booking, you can sample meat and smoked specialities from MP Krásno, a. s. and the local Řeznictví H+H, as well as regional beer from the Paličák microbrewery during a guided tour. This is a distinct type of visit within the destination, bringing together an exhibition, a guided tour and regional products. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore first decide which aspect of your stay should be the main focus: palace and exhibition culture, stargazing, park history or an occasion centred on regional flavours. For your further search, you can also view Kelč, Przno, Velké Karlovice, Karolinka, Lešná, Hovězí, Hrachovec and Bystřička.
