Střítež nad Bečvou: Church, Wetland and Cycling Paths

Střítež nad Bečvou lies in the valley of the Rožnovská Bečva, on its left bank and at the foot of the slopes of the Vsetínské vrchy. The village thus combines a distinctive valley setting with traces of cultural history, a protected wetland and signposted opportunities for cycling and walking excursions. Evangelical Church and Local History

A central cultural landmark is the Evangelical Church in Střítež nad Bečvou. It was built for a congregation of the Helvetic Confession between 1868 and 1876. The free-standing, three-nave pseudo-style church has a polygonal apse. In 1993, the church was declared an immovable cultural monument; in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic, it is listed under registration number 10421.

The furnishings also reflect various historical periods. According to experts, the Baroque-style organ was built after 1780 by František Horčička. The Střítež Evangelical congregation acquired it in 1873 for 100 gulden. The instrument in Střítež was declared a cultural monument by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic in 2004. The former production of woollen lumberjack gloves is also significant to the local history; basket-making and weaving reed mats were likewise traditional activities.

A small park lies in front of the church. It contains a statue of T. G. Masaryk, which was installed in its present form in 1990. The park also features a monument to the victims of the First World War. Architectural history, commemorative culture and local traditions are thus concentrated in one place.

Rákosina and the Landscape along the Rožnovská Bečva

Another characteristic feature of Střítež nad Bečvou can be seen in Rákosina. The protected wetland covers 17,582 square metres and lies at an elevation of 339 to 341 metres. It was declared a natural monument in 1993 to protect living nature and, in particular, endangered amphibian species. In addition to reed beds, Rákosina includes grass-covered embankments and around ten wetland pools.

The surrounding area is not limited to the valley. Some of the farmsteads of Střítež are scattered across the pasekas between the forests of the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area. This creates a village landscape in which settled areas, wetlands and wooded uplands offer different impressions without merging into a single uniform landscape type.

Cycling Route, Walk and Excursion Destinations

A marked cycling route leads from Střítež toward the Bystřička Reservoir. There, it connects to several marked hiking and cycling routes. In addition, a shared pedestrian and cycling path completed in mid-2023 connects Střítež nad Bečvou with the existing Cyklostezka Bečva and road I/35. When planning an excursion, you can therefore choose between a route toward the reservoir and the connection along the Bečva, without losing sight of the village itself.

For a quieter part of your stay, the pond and its well-maintained surroundings provide a pleasant point of reference. It is a frequent destination for walks by residents and visitors to Střítež. Together with the church, Rákosina and the cycling connections, this creates a destination that places cultural discoveries alongside routes through the landscape.
