Zlobice

Zlobice combines sacred local history with traces of very early settlement and a landscape whose southwestern part extends into the specially protected European Site of Importance Troják. This allows the village to be explored through several themes: church architecture, small monuments, archaeological finds, rural theatre tradition and the landscape of the Litenčické pahorkatina hills.

Sacred Architectural History and Monuments

The Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius is particularly prominent. It stands in Zlobice and was built between 1897 and 1899 according to a design by the architect Leodegard Slovák from Kroměříž. The associated rectory is one of Zlobice’s landmarks. The municipality also contains several stone crosses and other small sacred monuments. There is also a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes and a wooden cross, which can likewise be found in Zlobice.

Another historical detail is located directly next to the rectory: the Solanský Mill operated there from 1916 and had a small power station. For local history, this means that not only religious architecture is important, but also an example of earlier technological use. Those considering Zlobice as a place to stay can therefore get to know the municipality through a series of small, clearly identifiable testimonies rather than limiting themselves to a single attraction.

Archaeology and Landscape

The history reaches far back before the construction of today’s buildings. Archaeological finds show that the territory of the municipality of Zlobice was already settled in the Neolithic Age and during the Bronze and Iron Ages. At Hliník, a vessel from the Lusatian culture was excavated at a depth of approximately one metre. This approximate depth is part of the find itself and makes the archaeological connection to the place particularly concrete.

Most of Zlobice’s built-up area lies on gently sloping terrain in the Litenčické pahorkatina hills. The Věžecký stream flows through the built-up area; it has several right-bank tributaries. The southwestern part of the municipality is also where the connection to the specially protected European Site of Importance Troják begins. Thus, the municipality brings together a built-up settlement, waterways and a protected landscape area.

Traditions between Zlobice and Bojanovice

The Ferdyšova Theatre Company is part of the cultural heritage. It was founded in 1989 in Bojanovice to preserve rural traditions. The company developed a village theatre and staged numerous plays and fairy tales based on its own scripts or adapted scripts at the inn in Bojanovice. In this way, regional culture takes on an explicitly theatrical form alongside the church, archaeology and monuments.

On Větrák Hill, which separates Bojanovice from Zlobice, there is a monument to those who fell in the First World War, erected in 1920. It is crowned by a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. For 1 May, the traditional raising of the maypole was scheduled to take place at 18:00 at the festival grounds in Zlobice.
