Culture and Landscape in Rokytnice nad Rokytnou

Rokytnice nad Rokytnou combines a remarkable cultural and historical attraction with a rural setting. The Church of St. John the Baptist is particularly impressive. It is considered an important cultural monument, and its origins date back to the time when Rokytnice nad Rokytnou was established. It is therefore not merely an individual building worth seeing, but also a place where the history of the destination can be experienced directly.

The route to the church leads up a staircase decorated on both sides with baroque statues of saints. The more precisely identifiable works include the statue of Saint Francis of Assisi and the statue of Saint Sebastian. Both baroque figures come from the workshop of Znojmo sculptor Jan Mucek. Those interested in art and regional history will therefore find distinctive details worth a closer look already at the entrance to the church.

The Bathing Area: Swimming, Events, and an Important Note

A second, distinctly different part of the town is the bathing area. The bath in Rokytnice nad Rokytnou was built in the early 1970s and developed into a popular swimming destination. The grounds include a large pool measuring 50 × 35 metres and a small non-swimmer pool. Both pools have a gradual entry into the water and are set in grounds with regularly maintained lawns.

A specific limitation is important when assessing this facility: The water quality is not monitored, and the pools primarily serve as firefighting water reservoirs. The bathing area should therefore not be classified solely by its pool dimensions as an ordinary outdoor swimming pool. Changing rooms for men and women are available to visitors. The site also hosts mainly in summer dance events, country evenings, discos, and sporting and social events. Depending on the time of travel, the grounds may therefore be of interest not only for swimming but also as an event venue.

Cycling through the Landscape of the Třebíč Region

The “Forest Roads Around Rokytnice nad Rokytnou” route focuses on the surrounding area. It leads through forests, fields, and meadows and runs through the rural landscape of the Třebíč region. Cycling along it offers relaxation away from the town’s cultural and historical attractions. This allows two different experiences to be combined when planning a trip: a visit to the baroque church complex and a ride through a peaceful, agriculturally shaped landscape.

The municipality also includes the village of Veverka; the Rokytná River rises not far from there. This geographical connection adds another landscape aspect to the picture of Rokytnice nad Rokytnou.
