Koněšín between lakeside landscapes and local history

Koněšín combines a distinctive landscape on the Dalešice Reservoir with a local history that reaches back to a copy dating from 1101. The individual destinations have clearly different characteristics: at the water, the focus is on the landscape and spending time by the lake; in the village, it is on the church, museum, and historical heritage.

Koněšínská Beach on the Dalešice Reservoir

Koněšínská Beach lies about 2 kilometers south of Koněšín in the valley of the Dalešice Reservoir. The beach is a grassy bathing area with shallow access to the water and is also used for fishing. This makes the spot on the reservoir a different experience from a mere viewpoint: you can combine time on the shore with swimming or fishing without losing sight of Koněšín’s historical side.

Koněšínská Beach can be reached on foot or by bicycle via hiking trail 5207 A. Motorized vehicles are not permitted to drive onto the beach. This rule is part of the practical information to consider before your outing and also makes clear that the final access to the beach is not by car. Anyone wishing to combine cycling with the lakeside landscape will find a documented option in the signposted trail.

Steep shores and undeveloped nature

The area around the Dalešice Reservoir near Koněšín has steep slopes of up to 100 meters in height. These changes in elevation shape the landscape more strongly than a flat lakeshore and give the area a distinctly varied character. The Dalešice waterworks serves tourist recreation; along large parts of its shores, particularly on the right bank, nature has remained undeveloped. When choosing your accommodation, this primarily means deciding between a location-focused stay in Koněšín and excursions where the lakeside landscape itself is the actual destination.

Church, museum, and historical traces

Koněšín is home to the parish church of St. Bartholomew. It was built in the Baroque style from 1663 to 1679 on the site of an earlier church. The church is therefore a specific cultural and historical landmark in the village and complements the natural experiences at the reservoir with a building whose construction date is clearly documented.

The written mention of the village goes back even further: a copy of the founding charter of the Benedictine monastery in Třebíč from 1101 lists Koněšín as a settlement with a market and tavern keepers. This record describes Koněšín not only as a present-day starting point for excursions, but also as a place with a long documented history. The Letecké muzeum Koněšín aviation museum is also located in the Radarka area of Koněšín. This means that the village itself offers various points of interest for a stay focused on culture and landscapes.

Getting around by boat or bicycle

The Horácko excursion boat stops in Koněšín; bicycles can be taken on board. The Horácko’s regular boat service to Koněšín operates from April to October. This seasonal connection offers another way to explore the surroundings of the Dalešice Reservoir and is particularly relevant if you are planning a combination of a boat trip and cycling.
