Historical Traces of “Bílé Martinice”

The history of Martinice U Onšova dates back to the pre-Hussite period. The historical name “Bílé Martinice” is one of the area’s early traces; the first mention dates from the pre-Hussite period. The period from 1440 to 1450 is associated with Mikuláš Rubáš z Hrádku. After him, the place was also known as “Rubášovy Martinice”.

A particularly specific element of the historic townscape is Martinický mlýn. This is a remarkable historic mill complex from the 18th century, located below the dam of Martinický rybník. The complex includes a single-storey timber-framed granary. It is regarded as an outstanding monument of rural architecture and one of the last examples of its kind in the region. The mill area thus connects the history of water with a preserved example of regional building tradition.

Kaplička U kněžny is the only surviving historic monument in Martinice u Onšova. Another cultural trace leads to 1978: romantic scenes from the film “Jak dostat tatínka do polepšovny” were filmed in the surroundings of Martinice u Onšova in the Pelhřimov area.
