Hrutov: Discover Village History and Nature

Hrutov combines a well-preserved village structure with a diverse landscape of forests, pond ecosystems and wet meadows. It also features a marked hiking trail, the Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and a settlement structure in which the history of the place can be seen directly. Village Green, Strip Fields and Chapel

Hrutov’s original settlement structure has been well preserved. The village was laid out as a linear village with a village green and strip fields. A village green is a communal open space characteristic of a village; strip fields consist of narrow plots of land lying side by side. Individual rural buildings with a single storey and gabled roofs stand on the densely built-up village green. Anyone wishing to appreciate not only individual buildings but also the layout of a historic village will find a particularly tangible connection to the history of the place here.

The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is also located in Hrutov. It was built in 1866. Pilgrimages to Hrutov’s chapel have a long-standing and rich tradition. The chapel is therefore not only a historical landmark but also represents a religious tradition associated with the village.

Ponds, Forests and Rare Plants

The eastern boundary of the municipality is surrounded by forests in the area around Bukovec Hill. The pond ecosystems of Nový and Obůrka are located in the eastern part of the municipality. Pond ecosystems encompass more than individual bodies of water: the ecosystem also includes the habitats associated with the pond. The pond ecosystems southeast of Hrutov are registered as significant landscape features. Together with the forest area, they form a natural area where bodies of water and wooded sections lie side by side.

Another special natural site is Na podlesích, near Hrutov. There, in the floodplain of the Stráží stream, lies an exceptionally well-preserved peat meadow covering approximately 2 hectares. Na podlesích is also home to a natural wet-meadow community with occurrences of rare plant species. This site complements the pond landscape with wet meadowland and makes it clear that nature around Hrutov is not limited to a single type of landscape.

Hiking Trail and Geographical Orientation

A green-marked hiking trail from Krahulov to Kamenice passes through Hrutov’s cadastral area. This provides a specific route reference for planning a hike, without reducing the village to a single attraction. Road No. 4029, a third-class road, also runs through Hrutov. In Brodce, it joins Road No. 4026, which connects Opatov and Kněžice.
