Osová Bítýška combines a distinctive historical heritage with living traditions, contemporary art and opportunities for cycling and walking excursions.

Historic Centre with Unusual Details

The parish church of St James the Greater is the oldest historical building in Osová Bítýška. Its late medieval fortifications are preserved in the form of a free-standing tower and remnants of the defensive walls. The church’s Baroque gate is also noteworthy: it is one of only a few monuments of its kind in the Czech Republic. This means that one location brings together not only ecclesiastical history, but also a visible part of the former defensive complex.

A second historical focal point is Osová Château. It has been the surviving centre of the estate associated with Osová Bítýška since at least the early 14th century. The château and park grounds include a park with small structures, waterways and ponds. This complex creates a distinct accent alongside the parish church and makes Osová a destination for travellers who want to combine historic architecture with landscaped outdoor spaces.

Art and Traditional Festival Culture

The cultural side of the town extends into the present day. Since 1990, the Sýpka Gallery in Osová has served as an exhibition gallery for contemporary art. During the season from spring to autumn, it hosts accompanying events at the intersection of visual and performing arts, as well as musical performances. For travel planning, this provides an addition to the historic sights: depending on the date, a visit to an exhibition or event can form part of your stay alongside architecture and the park.

The Krojované lidové tance and Chasa offer another form of cultural experience and have a long-standing tradition in Osová Bítýška. In 2007, the Krojované lidové tance were associated with the Svatojakubská pouť for the first time. Since 2015, Moravská špacírka has also been danced at this pilgrimage. These dates show that local festival culture has not only been passed down through history, but has also been expanded with additional established elements.
