Borovnice between Rocky Landscapes and Village Culture
Borovnice combines protected landscape, marked trails and remarkable evidence of the region’s architectural and cultural heritage. The village lies in the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area and on a yellow-marked hiking trail. Near Borovnice, the Svratka forms a natural boundary between Bohemia and Moravia. Those wishing to combine experiences in nature with discoveries of cultural history on their journey will therefore find several clearly distinct themes here.
Prosička and the Svratka Valley
The Prosička natural monument lies in the cadastral area of Borovnice u Jimramova. It protects a geomorphologically distinctive gneiss rock complex: at the summit, the rock forms a wall surrounded by block fields. The Prosička viewpoint lies on the blue-marked hiking trail from Javorek to Jimramov.
Another landscape connection leads to the Svratka Valley near Krásné. It is a site of European importance and belongs to the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. Together with the natural boundary between Bohemia and Moravia, the Svratka makes the regional setting an important part of orientation: Borovnice represents not only a single village, but also the landscape areas along the river.
Folk Architecture and Historical Memorial Sites
The Borovnice No. 36 farmstead complex is particularly striking. It has been protected as a cultural monument since 17 September 2024 and is considered a very well-preserved and exceptionally valuable example, from a heritage conservation perspective, of a monumentally conceived, brick-built, two-storey village house dating from the period after the mid-19th century. Its characteristic feature is the regionally distinctive, four-sided enclosed courtyard. The large rural estate also includes a stone cross from the second half of the 19th century. It documents the development of housing as well as the life and livelihood of a more affluent farmer in the Žďárské vrchy.
Brick-built farmsteads have also been preserved elsewhere, documenting the region’s folk architecture. This picture is complemented by the Chapel of St. Joachim and St. Anne, which dates from 1900. In the centre of Borovnice lies the flat Tříkrálový kámen, a stone from the Svratka. In 1920, a relief of Jan Hus, created by the sculptor Julius Pelikán, was set into it. The years 1415, 1915 and 1918 are carved into the stone. The individual years and the relief make the site a tangible memorial within the village’s history.
Trails, Cycling and Technical History
Cycling route No. 4025 passes through Borovnice. A hiking tour from Telecí reaches the village via cycling route No. 4106.
These technical monuments include the Francis turbine at Feltlův mlýn. It dates from 1911 and is still in operation. The Francisův Lokál at Feltlův mlýn is documented in the same context; it can be rented for special occasions. The mill technology thus complements the older farmsteads and the chapel with another aspect of regional history.
