Hamry nad Sázavou – Circular Route, Rocks and Šlakhamr
Accommodation in Hamry Nad Sázavou
Hamry nad Sázavou combines a varied landscape with a circular route, a protected rock monument and an illustrative example of regional ironworking. The marked Hamerský vycházkový okruh is 15 km long, runs around Hamry nad Sázavou and is intended for visitors. This provides you with a clearly defined route for exploring the town, while other sights add their own distinctive features.
Landscape along the Sázava and Rozštípená Skála
The landscape follows the upper course of the Sázava and its tributaries, which flow through numerous ponds. Rozštípená Skála in the Sázava valley is a distinctive natural landmark. The rock is a state-protected natural monument. The rock face is divided by a weathered fissure approximately 10 metres long and about 2 metres wide. Thus, this location brings together a specific geological formation and a protected natural area.
Rozštípená Skála is also associated with climbing routes of all difficulty levels. The Hamerský vycházkový okruh, by contrast, provides a longer circular route through the surrounding area. You can complete the entire route by bicycle. If there is sufficient snow, the same circular route can also be used for cross-country skiing. Depending on the season, the same circular route therefore offers different possibilities: hiking, cycling or, if there is sufficient snow, cross-country skiing in the surroundings of Hamry nad Sázavou. This possibility explicitly depends on the snow conditions; it therefore does not constitute a year-round winter sports option.
Cycling Route and Getting There
For longer cycling tours, Cycling Route No. 19, the Posázavská route, is another point of reference. It runs through the entire municipality of Hamry nad Sázavou to Pension Najdek and then continues to Sázava. If you arrive by public transport, the Žďár nad Sázavou–Šlakhamry bus route passes through the entire municipality, serves six stops there and terminates in the Šlakhamry district.
Ironworking and Unusual Sculptures
Šlakhamr presents exhibitions on the ironworking tradition of the local region. The building was originally a medieval iron mill and was later operated as a grain mill until the Second World War. During regular guided tours, you can see the waterwheel in operation as it drives the water hammer. As a result, the history is not merely displayed but can also be understood through the technical installation described.
Among the most striking works in the town is the monumental sculpture Kůň. It stands at the horse paddock of the Na Ranči riding club in Hamry nad Sázavou and depicts a horse attempting to pull a cart out of the water. The sculpture also stands at the turn-off to the Na Ranči guesthouse. Hamroň is an abstract sculpture that combines a snail and a frog. Mamlase can be reached via the Hamerský vycházkový okruh beyond Hamroň.
