Martinice combines an informative local history with small, tangible outdoor experiences. If you would like to combine your stay with cultural discoveries, traditional festivals and a walk by the water, you will find several different points of interest here. The history of the village is reflected not only in a single building, but also in memorial sites, archaeological finds and customs that are still maintained today.

Culture and History in the Village

One of the notable historical details is Martinice’s municipal bell tower. It was extensively restored in 1979 and 1980. Another visible memorial site is the monument to those who fell in the First World War. It was erected in 1922, relocated in 1979 as part of the village’s redevelopment, and still stands there today. A visit to the village therefore allows you to trace both an older monument and a later approach to public space.

Particularly unusual is the coin hoard discovered in 1954 during construction work on a residential house in Martinice. It comprised 241 Prague groschen from the time of Charles IV and 18 groschen from the time of Wenceslaus IV. The find is now housed in the museum in Velké Meziříčí. Those interested in medieval history can thus find a tangible connection between Martinice and a museum outside the village, although the find itself cannot be viewed in Martinice.

Traditions and Community Experiences

The traditional erection of the maypole takes place on Martinice’s festival grounds. The traditional Masopust also offered a further insight into local customs: the masked procession began at the cultural centre at 1 p.m. on 22 February 2025. On the same occasion, visitors could sample slaughterhouse specialities on 22 February 2025. These documented dates are in the past; however, they show which forms of festival culture and regional cuisine are part of village life.

Pond Landscape, Walking and Exercise

For a quieter part of your stay, Rybník Louže pond is a notable feature of the landscape. The pond can be seen during a walk. In addition, two rows of rowan trees were planted by the pond and on the opposite bank. The two banks are therefore among the specific landscape features you can observe on a walk.

There are also documented opportunities for active pursuits. The multi-purpose sports field in Martinice has new floorball goals that can be used by people engaging in sports. In addition, existing cycle route No. 5242 is secured in Martinice’s municipal spatial plan and is taken into account. When choosing your accommodation, it is therefore particularly relevant whether you would like to focus on cultural observations in the village, a walk by the pond, sporting opportunities and cycling trips.
