Horní Rožínka Between Highland, History and Routes
Horní Rožínka lies in a hilly landscape on a highland plateau at about 528 metres above sea level. The village thus combines a clearly distinctive landscape with a remarkable local history and several ways to explore the surrounding area along different routes. If you are looking for a smaller Moravian village with cultural traces, cycling routes and activities for different age groups during your stay, you will find several specific points of interest here.
A Village with a Long History
The first written mention of Horní Rožínka dates from 1366. In the past, the village was known as Opatská Roženka, and occasionally simply as Roženka. Horní Rožínka remained the property of Žďár Monastery until 1784. These historical connections are complemented by several visible commemorative sites.
The shingle-roofed bell tower has a Chapel of the Virgin Mary on the ground floor. It dates from the 19th century and was renovated in 1998. As a historic monument, the bell tower is registered under catalogue number 1000141257. A memorial plaque on the corner of farmhouse No. 3 opposite the chapel also commemorates Sylvestr Blaha. He later headed the military office of President T. G. Masaryk and also held this position under President Edvard Beneš.
Jan Koloušek, an important Czech economist, is also associated with the village. He was born in Horní Rožínka in Moravia on 15 December 1859. A local tradition also preserves the memory of the volunteer fire brigade, which organised outings under the chestnut trees every summer.
Cycling and Horse Riding in the Surrounding Area
There are several clearly described routes for active days. The Santini cycling route 5061 runs from Zvole via Horní Rožínka to Rozsochy. The 31-kilometre cycling trip “Na kole za zábavou” runs via Rozsochy and Horní Rožínka to Zvole. Both descriptions show different ways to include the village in a cycling tour without limiting the route to a single direction.
Horse riding is also represented in the local history of the routes: the 129-kilometre Dukovany–Javorek bridleway passes through Horní Rožínka.
Family-Friendly Options Close to the Village
The village has a multifunctional sports field with an artificial surface and a children's playground with climbing equipment. A well-maintained fire-water reservoir is also one of the local options for a break between outings; swimming is permitted there at your own risk. The explicit restriction applies to swimming and should be taken into account when planning your day.
There is a bus stop next to the Horní Rožínka municipal office. The nearest railway stations are in Rozsochy, Rožná and Bystřice nad Pernštejnem. For further regional searches, you can also view Sklené Nad Oslavou, Otín, Zvole, Sejřek, Chlum-Korouhvice, Pokojov, Bory and Lisna.
