Discover Litvínov

Litvínov combines historic architecture with a diverse range of cultural and leisure activities. The historic part of the town is dominated by the early Baroque Church of the Archangel Michael, while Zámek Valdštejnů, exhibitions, sports facilities and public venues offer different highlights for your stay. Those travelling with varied interests can choose between architectural history, cultural programmes and active pursuits here.

Historic Buildings and Parks

The Church of the Archangel Michael was built between 1685 and 1694 according to plans by J. B. Mathey and is a dominant feature of the historic part of Litvínov. Its complex includes the rectory No. 38, a staircase leading from the square to the church’s main entrance, and a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in the rectory courtyard. The church is therefore not merely a single point of interest, but a clearly defined architectural ensemble.

Another historic stop is Zámek Valdštejnů at No. 1 Mostecká Street, near Míru Square. Today’s Baroque Zámek Valdštejnů was remodelled between 1732 and 1743; its distinctive appearance was shaped by the architect František Maxmilián Kaňka. The building houses exhibitions on sculptures by Stanislav Hanzík, Litvínov’s comital cloth manufactory and the history of Hush toy production in Litvínov. A visit can thus be combined with art, economic and urban history.

The castle grounds also include Zámecký park, which was laid out in the English style in 1878 and covers eight hectares. Voigtovy sady adjoin the rear of the Church of the Archangel Michael. Smetanova Street is also home to a group of five recently reconstructed Art Nouveau houses built between 1901 and 1906. With Koldům, Litvínov also has a technical and architectural monument of European significance.

Culture and Active Leisure

A publicly accessible sports and recreation complex is located around Koldům. It includes a multi-purpose sports hall, a public outdoor swimming pool, and tennis and volleyball courts. This provides a dedicated area with several sports options for a stay that combines historic discoveries with physical activity.

Koupaliště Litvínov has a 50-metre outdoor pool with a water slide. In addition, there are sandy and grass playing areas that can be used for volleyball, handball, football or dodgeball. The public programme at Citadela Litvínov includes film screenings, a film club, concerts and other events. The Loučky cultural and sports complex has a small and a large open-air stage for concerts.

Litvínov therefore offers various ideas for spending the day without the focus having to be exclusively on the town’s history: you can admire Baroque and historic architecture, visit exhibitions, choose a cultural programme or plan sports and outdoor swimming activities. For families with varied interests, this alternation between quieter cultural moments and more active options provides a clear basis for shaping the stay according to the desired pace.
